Too Cheap to Hire a Credit Repair Lawyer?Once you've decided to take action to repair your credit, you have a couple of choices: (a) You can either do it on your own or (b) hire the services of a credit attorney or law firm to tackle the credit repair process. It might be tempting to take the "free" route and try to fix your credit on your own, but you're probably not considering the real expense, both in resources and time, of attempting to repair your credit yourself. First of all, to be effective you'll need to get a grasp of what your rights are under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). If you're not the kind of person who likes to study and don't have patience for translating legalese, this might not be for you. But if you're determined enough to continue, count on spending at least a few hours researching applicable credit laws. Once you've figured out where to start and what laws to cite, you'll need to draft a good dispute letter. You may consider yourself a good writer, but have you ever written a letter like this? If it doesn't sound professional or contain accurate information, you've just wasted your time and will have to start from the beginning. Credit bureaus will not take you seriously. Do You Enjoy Standing in Long Lines at the Post Office? The easy part comes next: you'll have to mail the letters in person because they need to be sent via USPS, return receipt requested. This takes time. Time out from work and time away from what you really want to be doing - which probably is not standing in line at the post office! Your time is worth something. Paper, printing and postage are not free either. Now the hard part begins, and if you're organizationally challenged you're not going to like it. You need to keep track of every bit of correspondence with creditors and credit bureaus. You'll need photocopies of everything, not to mention an accurate way of tracking conversations, when letters were sent or received, results . . . in short, a massive paper trail of documentation and probably a few spreadsheets to keep track of everything. If you don't stay on top of things, you'll regret it fast. Expect to invest several hours per week updating your files and records as well as reading and responding to letters. If you don't give this process your full attention and utmost effort, you may find yourself out both time and money, with very little to show for your efforts. Plan on allotting several hours per week to work on your credit file. Sound intimidating? It can be. So, unless you're really fascinated by federal statutes on credit and your time is worthless, the question is not can you afford credit repair services, but rather can you afford NOT to seek help. Lexington Law is able to provide exceptional services at very affordable prices, and offers a fixed monthly price once you've paid an initial one-time fee for all the first work to get your case started. Plus, there is absolutely no risk with the risk-free refund policy. In return for this you'll secure the help and resources of a nationwide expert credit repair team, not to mention the peace of mind know that the job will be done right.
